Have At It

Have At It

Have at it, by Alex Day is a rather funky cocktail found in Death & Co's book. The list of ingredients is long, but there are only quite common products in it. As the cocktail is primarily based on sherry it gets low on ABV, especially as the whole creation is also topped up with club soda. There was a delicate change in the weather when we poured this cocktail. The cloudy autumn sky suddenly cleared up and the sun made a very welcome appearance. We hurried out on our balcony to do the shooting

Pomegranate Martini

Pomegranate Martini

This is a Pomegranate Martini made with pomegranate juice rather than grenadine. This gives the cocktail an intense, ruby red colour that makes the whole creation look very delicious. Just like cranberry juice, pomegranate juice is a bit bristly on the tongue and it's actually a pretty cool thing in this cocktail. It is not a sweet drink but rather a well balanced one with both acidity and fruit very present. As seen in the recipe this cocktail is vodka based. Many times vodka is not the most

Almond Brother

Almond Brother

These are two Almond Brothers by Jason Littrell from bar Death & Co. It's a recipe that combines Mexican tequila with Italian Amaretto in a playful way. But can these two spirits really be brothers? 2 oz reposado tequila 0,25 oz Amaretto 1 teaspoon apricot liqueur 0,75 oz lime juice 0,25 oz orgeat 0,25 oz maple syrup Shake with fresh ice, strain into fancy glasses. Well yes, one could believe so. They work very well together, despite both being quite characteristic on their own. The amount of

Widow's Laurel

Widow's Laurel

Let's focus a bit on glassware, such an essential part of any cocktail. We love going glassware hunting. The charity shops in Stockholm see us frequently, and we can never resist a good glass temptation. The coupe glasses in this photograph we spotted on a recent trip to Berlin, in a charity shop on Friedrich Straße. There were four of them, in perfect condition, but with no price tag. As the selection in the shop seemed quite curated we expected a hefty price tag but were really surprised to f

Rubberband Man

Rubberband Man

A Rubberband Man, that's what I'm holding in my hand (together with a rather large amount of rubber bands). This balancing act was well worth the effort though, this cocktail is a really nice one! When we found the recipe we were primarily intrigued by two things; the funny name of the cocktail and the Cardamaro content. Cardamaro is a low ABV amaro with a really nice flavour, almost of ginger bread but slightly more bitter. Here it is mixed with both rum and Cognac, and a small amount of Bene

Le Bateleur

Le Bateleur

“Le Bateleur” - we just love the name of this Death & Co original by Alex Day. It's a true autumn cocktail with all those dark spirits in the same recipe. The gin obviously leads the way, but it is nicely accompanied along that way by Punt E Mes, Strega and Cynar. A quite Italian cocktail in the end, despite the french name. This is a perfect slow sipper cocktail, high on ABV. It's also a 3,5 oz recipe so you're in for a long lasting indulgence. If you garnish with an orange twist like we did y

Gargoyle & Spire

Gargoyle & Spire

Yes, we finally own a bottle of Italian Strega! We've tried it in cocktails at different bars, but have so far not made anything with it ourselves. But with a secured bottle in our home bar it was time to make a Gargoyle & Spire cocktail. The Strega has a beautiful yellow colour. Flavour wise its not too far from yellow Chartreuse, but at the same time different. In this drink it's combined with gin and sparkling wine, but only a small amount of simple syrup. This makes it a slightly bitter coc

Domo Arigato

Domo Arigato

Unusual cocktail ingredients is always fun. In the Domo Arigato by Ran Duan there is sesame oil . . . and it's paired with mezcal! Check out this awesome recipe: 2 oz mezcal 0,75 oz lime juice 0,5 oz simple syrup 1 bar spoon sesame oil 3 oz ginger beer Shake everything but the ginger beer with ice, double strain and pour into glasses pre-filled with the ginger beer. Now a bar spoon of sesame oil can be a tiny amount or a large amount depending on the size of your bar spoon. As we did two cockt
