If you love tequila and enjoy cocktails with a fruity twist, the Toreador is an excellent choice to try. This vintage cocktail, first appearing in the Café Royal Bar Book in 1937, offers a bright, balanced profile that’s both approachable and elegant. While it shares some similarities with the Margarita, the Toreador stands out with the addition of apricot liqueur, giving it a sweeter and softer character. It’s a while ago since we did this one. Finding it in our archive of unpublished cocktails was surprising, seeing how much snow we had outside our “studio” back then.
What Is a Toreador Cocktail?
The Toreador cocktail is a tequila-based drink that combines the earthiness and herbal notes of tequila with the floral sweetness from apricot liqueur and the refreshing zing of fresh lime juice. It’s an excellent alternative for those who enjoy a Margarita but want something a little fruitier and more complex.
Traditionally made with blanco tequila, the recipe also allows for reposado tequila if you prefer a slightly richer flavor. The drink is shaken and strained into a chilled cocktail glass, typically served without garnish, though a lime wheel can be added if you wish.
