Sugarplum

Sugarplum

Three ingredients. That's all it takes to make the Sugarplum by Joseph Schwartz. The marriage between the bitter grapefruit juice and the super sweet grenadine syrup is very successful. And when also the generous splash of gin gets involved an adorable cocktail is literally born. As there's only three ingredients in it, your choice of gin matters. It's completely up to you if you wanna go floral, citrusy or maybe spicy. Sugarplum Recipe Ingredients: 2 oz gin 1 oz grapefruit juice 0,5 oz gren

Bicycle Thief

Bicycle Thief

Bicycle Thief - is what Zachary Gelnaw-Rubin and Abraham Hawkins call this joint-effort creation. There are quite a few ingredients in the drink, so measuring it up is a bit time consuming. Take your time though and be accurate as the ratio between the ingredients is quite delicate. The ruby red coloured cocktail you end up with is not only beautiful but also very delicious. It's relatively bitter with all that gin, Campari and grapefruit juice but it is of course nicely countered by the simpl

Le Coquetiez Du Lion

Le Coquetiez Du Lion

Apparently the house cocktail of Bar Le Lion in Hamburg, Le Coquetiez Du Lion is as simple to make as it is delicious to drink. We love cocktails like this, few and available ingredients, but still a stunning end result. Its colour is so delicate, and all that fruit from the Lillet combined with the stiff gin, proves that the final mix can be even greater than its good parts. Le Coquetiez Du Lion Recipe Ingredients: 1,75 oz Lillet Blanc 1 oz gin 3 dashes Peychaud bitters Mixing: Stir with fr

The Last Word

The Last Word

We have barrel aged a two liter batch of The Last Word since a few weeks, and now it's time for a first taste. What we immediately noticed is how the green colour, from the Chartreuse, has somehow faded a bit. We'll never find out if the inside of our barrel is now completely green, but nevermind. What's happened flavour wise is that the sweetness from the Chartreuse and the Maraschino liqueur has somehow decreased a bit, and instead the whole cocktail feels slightly stiffer and boozier. It's d

Alaska

Alaska

It's winter time, and making a classic Alaska cocktail seems s(n)o(w) fitting. A cocktail doesn't get more simple than this - just two ingredients, three if you also count the orange bitters. But while it's easy to make, it's still a surprisingly complex cocktail tastewise. The Chartreuse on its own is so full of flavour, and when it is combined with the semi sweet old Tom gin and the bitters a snow angel is indeed born. The subtle yellowness from the Chartreuse is what makes the Alaska so app

20th Century

20th Century

Tonight it is time to feature a classic. This is the 20th Century cocktail made with gin, cacao liqueur, Lillet blanc and fresh lemon juice. If you've looked at page 224 in Jim Meehan's beautiful book “Meehan's Bartender Manual” you've seen a stunning photo of this cocktail already. In our shoot we also wanted to capture that pale yellow colour and subtle appearance of the cocktail. But what it lacks in colour is well compensated in flavour. It's the combination of the tart gin and the sweet c

Blood Orange

Blood Orange

Jamie Boudreau at Canon in Seattle [http://www.canonseattle.com/] claims this cocktail tastes of blood orange, despite no presence at all of that citrus fruit in the ingredients list. In fact, he's so sure you will taste it, he even named the cocktail Blood Orange. And believe it or not, this cocktail really tastes like blood orange. That bitterness from the Campari, combined with orange juice mimics blood orange in an almost magical way. This is the perfect way of enjoying that flavour all yea

Polished Diamond

Polished Diamond

Etrog has been a new discovery to us during 2017. It's a yellow citron fruit, looking like a knotty lemon. At Sukkah Hill Spirits they turn this characteristic citron into a delicious liqueur. And tonight we incorporate the Etrog liqueur in a Polished Diamond cocktail. Another ingredient in this drink is a dry white wine, which we don't use too often in cocktails. Turns out it works really well, contributing with a subtle dryness, and also helping to lower the ABV. A big part of cocktailing to
